FOOD SERVICE UPDATE! The USDA recently extended the Summer Food Service Program. Due to this extension, beginning tomorrow Luling ISD will be providing FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH TO ALL CHILDREN 0-18 YEARS OLD! The program is scheduled to expire on Dec. 31 or when funds run out, whichever happens first. The district will serve students attending onsite at all buildings. At-home learners and other children in the community are able to pick up the free meals outside the High School Cafeteria from 9am-10am. Students will be able to pick up breakfast and lunch at the same time. When funds run out, the district will go back to the National School Breakfast and Lunch programs and students will be charged according to their eligibility.

Luling Primary and Shanklin Elementary will be participating in Sandy Hook Promise’s Start With Hello Week September 21-25, 2020 . Start With Hello brings attention to the growing epidemic of social isolation and empowers young people to create a culture of inclusion and connectedness within their school, youth organization and community. #startwithhelllo

With the challenges COVID-19 has created, now more than ever, it is important to not only teach students skills for academic success but just as importantly we need to attend to their social and emotional needs during these uncertain times. This year’s guidance lessons, taught by the counselor, will use the evidence based program Second Step to teach critical academic and social skills such as: how to focus their attention, listen carefully, use self-talk to stay on task, identify and understand their own and other’s feelings, show compassion, calm down when experiencing strong feelings like anger or anxiety, and steps for positively solving problems with others. Learning these skills takes practice, and families are encouraged to be engaged in the learning process through home link activities that will be shared in the counselor’s Google classroom. We look forward to an exciting year as we all learn new skills on this journey!

Dear Parents and Guardians, At approximately 12:15 p.m., Luling ISD received a report of possible suspicious activity in the vicinity of the campuses. As a precautionary measure, campuses were placed in Lockout (Secure) mode. Instruction inside the buildings continued, but transitions between buildings were eliminated. Upon receipt of an “All Clear” from local and area law enforcement, the Lockout was removed and campuses resumed normal operations. For additional information regarding Luling ISD’s emergency response procedures utilizing the Standard Response Protocol, please see the attachment.
