Dear Parents and Guardians,
We would like to provide you with an update regarding the status of the investigation into yesterday’s concerning altercation between two high school students. As previously mentioned, the juvenile male that threatened violence at the high school campus has been arrested by law enforcement and is facing criminal charges. A second juvenile male involved in the altercation has also been arrested and faces assault charges. Any involved students that are determined to have escalated the situation will also be receiving disciplinary consequences.
Luling ISD administration appreciates the information provided by students, parents, and concerned community members. The reports received in person, by phone, by email, and through the Anonymous Reporting feature on the district website have enabled the administrators and law enforcement to respond quickly and extensively. As a result of these reports, Luling ISD administrators were made aware of a separate event that occurred yesterday. A group of students standing outside the high school at the conclusion of the lunch period reported that an individual in a vehicle pointed what appeared to be a firearm at them. The vehicle and its occupants have been identified through surveillance footage and witness reports. The firearm was determined to be an airsoft pellet gun. Local law enforcement is investigating the incident and the student is facing potential criminal charges.
Luling ISD and law enforcement will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the students and staff. We ask for your continued assistance in teaching the students about the seriousness of making threatening comments, messages, or actions and the potential repercussions. Threats to student and staff safety will be taken seriously, and legal and disciplinary consequences will ensue.
We are grateful for each of the individuals who have worked to ensure safety for all of us. We want to continue to encourage students to be courageous, speak up, and stand up in the face of wrongdoing. We will maintain our vigilance, and we ask you to do the same.
-Superintendent Warren
